Pune is the second-largest city in the state of Maharashtra after Mumbai. Just 30 km away from Pune, the Chakan industrial area has developed into a vigorous automobile hub over the last two decades. Automobile giants like Mercedes Benz, Mahindra and Mahindra, Volkswagen have set up their manufacturing plants along with other automobile components companies. Power is available in the industrial area through MSEB, and a 12.5 MVA Substation of MSEB already exists at Chakan.
