Hands-on Science for Holistic Development: IndoSpace, SKF, and Agastya Foundation Join Forces to Empower Chakan’s Education Landscape

In a steady move toward fostering holistic education and scientific curiosity, IndoSpace, in collaboration with SKF, recently inaugurated a Mobile Science Lab (MSL) as part of a joint Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)-tenant collaboration program. The initiative, launched last month, aims to revolutionize science education in rural schools near the Chakan Industrial Area region, marking a significant step toward empowering students and educators through hands-on learning experiences.

Inauguration of Mobile Science Van: Transforming Education in Chakan

The focal point of this initiative is the introduction of a Mobile Science Lab (MSL) designed to bring the wonders of science to the doorstep of schools in the Chakan region. The inauguration of this program represents a commitment to providing students with a unique opportunity to engage with science concepts through practical, experiential learning.

Collaborative Approach with SKF for Large-Scale Impact

Indospace recognizes that the power of collaborative actions is a catalyst for positive change, fostering a collective impact that empowers and transforms the lives of its beneficiaries. By prioritizing collaboration, Indospace amplifies its ability to address challenges comprehensively and create lasting, meaningful outcomes for the communities it serves.

IndoSpace’s partnership with SKF in this program exemplifies a collaborative approach, leveraging shared resources and expertise to achieve a larger impact on program implementation and coverage.

Key NGO Involvement: Agastya International Foundation

Driving this transformative initiative is the notable involvement of Agastya International Foundation, a charitable education trust founded in April 1999. Renowned for running one of the world’s largest mobile hands-on science education programs for economically disadvantaged children. Agastya plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success and sustainability of the Mobile Science Lab initiative.

The Objective of the Mobile Science Lab

The Mobile Science Lab (MSL) project aims at the holistic development of children in Chakan region schools. By tapping into their natural intelligence, building motor skills, and enabling hands-on exploration, the MSL program seeks to go beyond traditional learning methods. The emphasis on creative learning is intended to enhance the quality of science education, instigate key behavioral shifts in students, and foster a love for scientific inquiry.

Hands-on science sessions conducted by MSL instructors cover a wide range of topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for students in Classes 6 through 9. The program includes Science Fairs, Young Instructor (YI) Training, and Teacher Training Workshops, all contributing to a dynamic and interactive learning experience.

Science Fairs

Science Fairs serve as a platform to demonstrate science concepts to children through fun, hands-on experiments.

YI Training

Young Instructors are trained to demonstrate science models and concepts to their peers. This not only boosts the confidence and communication skills of the YILs but also fosters greater interaction and comprehension of concepts among the students. Young Instructor Leaders (YILs) identified during these fairs play a crucial role in delivering peer-to-peer learning during subsequent events.

Teacher Training Workshops

Teachers undergo training to enable them to disseminate knowledge effectively, promote creative thinking, and develop problem-solving skills among students. This initiative aims to significantly improve the classroom learning environment and enhance student-teacher interactions.

Schools Covered:

  • 11 Schools in the Chakan Region

The initiative has garnered the support of SKF CSR and the Plant Team, with Seema Suman (DGM, CSR) actively participating in the program. This initiative is planned to continue for the next two years, with the intention to extend its reach to additional schools in the Chakan region in the future.

Looking forward, the program is set to continue for the next two years, with aspirations to extend its reach to more schools. As the Mobile Science Van rolls into schools, it signifies more than just a physical presence; it represents a collaborative force for positive change, shaping the next generation of scientific minds in Chakan.
